Delos, although a small rocky islet in the centre of the Aegean Sea, is considered the most sacred of all islands in ancient Greek civilization. According to myth, as recorded in the Homeric Hymn, Apollo, the god of light, and his twin sister Artemis, associated with the Moon, were born on Delos. Delos archaeological site, as it has emerged from 1873 to the present day, is the result of research and systematic excavations conducted by the French School at Athens, the Greek Archaeological Society, and the Ministry of Culture.
The photogrammetric 3D textured mesh model, including the Sanctuary of Apollo and the sacred Lake Quarter, was created by the Greek Ministry of Culture, General Directorate of Cyclades, Ephorate of Antiquities of Cyclades, in collboration with Astrolabe Engineering. The digitisation was made via UAV aerial imagery and photogrammetry.
The model is published as open access record in the EUreka3D Data Hub, aggregated in Europeana in the context of Twin.it for the Ministry of Culture of Greece, with collaboration of Greek National Aggregator EKT – SearchCulture.gr.
