The Lootsi cog is the wreck of a remarkably well-preserved medieval ship discovered in 2022 near the Old City Harbour of Tallinn, on Lootsi Street. Archaeological excavations were led by Muinasprojekt OÜ. After the completion of fieldwork, the wreck was transported to the Estonian Maritime Museum in four large sections. Dendrochronological research has shown that the timber used to build the ship was felled around 1360. Excavations on Lootsi Street and subsequent cleaning at the Maritime Museum have produced several notable finds, including tools, leather shoes, and weapons. Among the most exceptional discoveries are the well-preserved remains of two ship rats and a ship compass, believed to be the oldest surviving dry compass in Europe.
The model is published as open access record in the EUreka3D Data Hub, aggregated in Europeana in the context of Twin.it for Estonia, with collaboration of the National Heritage Board of Estonia and Estonian Maritime Museum.
