Following the Monday demonstration on 9 October 1989, banners such as this began to appear increasingly—previously, objects of this kind were confiscated by the Stasi. Later, for example during the large demonstration at Alexanderplatz in East Berlin on 4 November 1989, self-made banners and signs dominated the scene. Unique, diverse and colourful, they reflect both emotions and demands. Today, these banners are valuable testimonies to the desire for change in the GDR.
The object is presented in the new permanent exhibition “You Are Part of History. Germany since 1945” at the House of the History of the Federal Republic of Germany.
The model is published as open access record in the EUreka3D Data Hub, aggregated in Europeana in the context of Twin.it for Germany, on behalf of the Stiftung Haus der Geschichte der Bundesrepublik Deutschland.
