This model represents the Puerta de Alcalá in Madrid after the latest restoration in 2025. The Puerta de Alcalá is a heritage landmark of the city of Madrid and also of the Landscape of Light, a cultural site inscribed on the World Heritage List since 2021.
Given the evident signs of deterioration of the Puerta de Alcalá, during the second half of 2022 a series of preliminary studies were carried out to generate a comprehensive diagnosis of its pathologies. These studies included 3D scanning and modelling to obtain a three-dimensional photogrammetric model of the monument, as well as laboratory analyses of the composition of the materials and their behaviour when subjected to different cleaning and consolidation treatments. The 3D model was developed using drone-based aerial capture with photogrammetry carried out by the Directorate-General for Cultural Heritage and Urban Landscape of the Department of Culture, Tourism and Sport of Madrid City Council, optimised by the memoriademadrid Digital Library.
The model is published as open access record in the EUreka3D Data Hub, aggregated in Europeana in the context of Twin.it for Spain, with collaboration of Spanish National Aggregator HISPANA.
