Robe à l’anglaise (BE)

A robe à l’anglaise is an eighteenth-century gown characterized by a closely fitted bodice and back, often open at the front to reveal a matching skirt It reflects English tastes for tailored construction, comfort, and restrained ornamentation. To protect the gown from dirt, the train could be drawn up using a clever system of hidden ribbons. Because the silk has become so fragile, the gown can no longer be displayed with the train lifted. The Twin It! initiative offered a unique opportunity to see how this was done nonetheless

The dress could be worn in two fashions and both are presented in the 3D models.

The models are published as open access records in the EUreka3D Data Hub, aggregated in Europeana in the context of Twin.it for Belgium / Flanders, on behalf of the ModeMuseum Antwerpen. Please allow few seconds for the models to load. The background color can be adjusted with the control pad on the left side of the viewer.
